Your first session will include a 5- to 15-minute intake. You will fill out a medical history form and outline your goals for treatment. Then we will discuss these goals, and I will suggest how to use the time you have scheduled. We will come up with a treatment plan together. Please do not come early to this appointment. It takes 30 minutes to sanitize the room between clients. You must wear a mask in my office during your entire visit. I will be wearing one too. I will give you a short tour of the treatment room and answer your questions. I will show you where to put your belongings and how to position yourself on the massage table. I will exit the room to allow privacy while you undress to your comfort level. You will cover yourself with a sheet. Some clients prefer to receive bodywork over their clothes. You get to decide what you are comfortable with. Everyone will be draped during their massage. That's the law! I will let you choose music and decide whether you prefer unscented or scented massage cream for your session.
The short answer is no. It should not be painful. If I am working and you feel discomfort past your pain tolerance, I will either notice and adjust the pressure or rely on your feedback to correct it to your comfort level. You may feel a minor sensitivity for one to three days after your massage. It might feel similar to symptoms you could experience if you had just begun a new workout program. This is normal. If you feel any sensitivity beyond that, we will need to adjust the pressure based on your observations the next time you come in for an appointment. I will check in with you each time you come in to make sure we are making adjustments as needed.
I am answering this here because this is something I get asked. A lot! It is your preference if you decide to shave or not shave your legs, back, face before your massage session. I don't have one. If you have a lot of body hair I will use more cream in those areas to prevent pulling. The same goes for whether you choose to tether long hair (lol). It's your preference. If you feel more comfortable putting it in a hair tie or wrap during your session, I encourage you to do that. If you want to leave it loose, we can adjust it during your session. That's okay too. I can't say this enough. I don't have a preference. I want you to feel comfortable.
Yes. You are welcome here! I hate that I have to say this. Clients tell me that massage therapists have turned them away in the past. I purchase massage tables that can accommodate a working weight of 800 pounds or more depending on the table to provide bodywork for various sizes and statures. The client bench for sitting on and storing belongings is rated for up to 500 pounds.
Yes. This office is queer and trans positive. I am open to feedback, and I'm always learning as much as possible to provide the best care and sensitivity for my lgbtqia+ sibs.
Yes. There is no age restriction for receiving bodywork. I am trained in both infant and geriatric massage techniques. I can accommodate clients from birth to their golden age. I require permission from a guardian or parent to work with clients under age 18.
Don't hesitate to reach out for information regarding specific medical conditions. I couldn't possibly list every condition where massage is or isn't appropriate. And sometimes, with your physician's guidance, we can make accommodations and adjustments to address your individual medical needs.
I have allergies too. Biotone makes most of the carriers I use, and most of the essential oils I use are from Mountain Rose Herb Company. I encourage you to message me before booking your session to make sure the ingredients in these products will not cause a reaction. If you have special needs, we can discuss this further. Some clients have felt more comfortable providing their oils or massage creams. Please check with me first to ensure I will not be allergic to them if you'd like to do this.
If you are sensitive to essential oils, please get in touch with me before scheduling, and I will book you on a day and time when the room is "fresh." I cannot, however, guarantee that the space will be completely clear of scents. If you have a strong reaction to these products including residual or trace amounts then this office may not be the best fit for you. I do wash linens in unscented detergents and products. I clean the treatment room with unscented products. I can't guarantee that there will be no trace as I do offer aromatherapy treatments for clients who prefer this service.
I appreciate your feedback, and I am open to suggestions. Please message me if you think of a question that should be added to this page or answered before your session. Thank you!
